Any general health guides or websites for men in their 30s?

October 5th, 2009

xp antispyware

From time to time, I’ve come across literature, websites, and TV/Radio reports on health guides for people turning a certain age. Mostly for seniors, but recently I heard a 5 minute radio report on health tips for people entering their 50s. I will be turning 30 later this year, and I was wondering if there is anything out there (especially websites) that can provide good health information and advice for men in their 30s. I’m looking for something that would provide this type of information: – Any tests or screenings that men in their 30s should have – Any common changes in a man’s health or body that takes place in their 30s. – Any common health “issues” men begin to experience during that age – Any general tips targeted for men in their 30s on how to stay healthy. If you don’t know of a website, but can provide information based upon your own personal knowledge or experience, feel free to answer. Thanks!
 it’s just what you need!

What are the men’s health benefits of wearing baggy tops and shorts?

October 5th, 2009

As casual wear, we currently (many of us) dress top-heavy; lots of gear on the top, but fairly loose and shorts (quite long shorts) whatever the weather. I feel very comfortable, I think it looks good especially on guys who are fit and wear uncomfortable clothes for gym, work and pool. Why does this gear feel so good?

i dunno why it feels so good but i rather tighter clothes to show off my figure and thats just me

Why is there so little focus on men’s health?

October 5th, 2009

Men live 6 years less than women and are more likely to be victims of the 15 top causes of death. Prostate cancer is now the most common cancer.

Despite these facts all I see are campaigns for women’s health. Pink ribbons are everywhere I look.
No, I am not. See any prostate cancer campaigns? No, you don’t. It is all breast cancer.

Several times more research money is spent on women’s health issues than men’s as well.

You’re wrong! There is so much talk about men’s prostate trouble and heart disease and colon cancer, as well as other types of cancer.

There’s a "Men’s Health" category right here in Y/A that’s very popular. The magazine "Men’s Health" is a huge seller.

I think men still don’t eat as healthy as women. For example, last Saturday night my husband and I went out to dinner. The men ordered steaks, and made fun of the other woman and myself when we ordered salmon. Why?? Men drink a lot more beer than women, and I think more men than women still smoke cigerettes, as well as pot. Mostly Viet Nam vets, who are now in their late 50’s.

That was a great question. It’ll be good conversation for our next dinner out! Give that man a star!! :)

“Health Food” vs. Healthy Food — How to read labels

October 5th, 2009

Do you know how to read food labels? Maybe you THOUGHT you did. Truth is, you probably don’t.

But Jeff Novick, MS, RD — of the McDougall program — does. And in his full talk he shows the 3 easy steps you MUST know if you ever buy foods at any supermarket or “health” food store.

In this online excerpt, Novick — who used to be a food service manager at Kraft Foods — exposes one of the dirty secrets major food corporations use to deceive consumers. It’s no accident labels are so confusing!

High-protein/low-carb diet proponents claim that the US started eating “low-fat” foods 20 years ago and yet still gained weight, “proving” that the low-fat diet wasn’t effective.

But that’s nonsense, as Novick demonstrates in his talk.

The foods weren’t/aren’t low-fat at all. Food companies use sleight of hand to make them appear that way.

Novick shows how to cut through the nonsense of food labeling to see what you need to see, and understand what you’re really getting.

This is an excerpt from Novick’s 80-minute talk at the VegSource 2007 Healthy Lifestyle Expo, and part of a 12-part series of top health expert presentations.

In his full fascinating and entertaining presentation, Novick teachers the “three easy rules” for cutting through the b.s. and quickly understanding food labels, to know exactly what you’re getting. After watching his talk, you’ll never look at packaged food the same!

Nutrition and Your Mental Health

What does nutrition have to do with mental health? You might be surprised to find out the truth behind what happens when a person has a nutritional deficiency.

Nutritional deficiencies can cause all sorts of psychiatric symptoms including apathy, low energy, irritability, insomnia, low energy, agitation, fatigue, concentration problems, aches and pains, weight changes, including weight loss or weight gain. Sound a lot like the symptoms of depression? The truth is the average American diet of fast food is low in vital nutrition that you need for your body to function correctly.

This isn’t to say that all depression is caused by bad nutrition but it’s certainly a contributing factor in many cases and poor nutrition will always make depression worse. Antidepressant drugs also do not correct nutritional problems. So if your depressed because of nutritional problems an antidepressant will only partially cover up the problem and you body still won’t function correctly.
